Aquapuncture
The Unit design recalls the archetypes of the tree and the hut through a inverted-umbrella-like mechanism that celebrates the object as “invention”:an invention that is familiar yet decontextualized.
Minimum ground occupation ensure low impact on the land;the use of recyclable materials guarantee a sustainable, local production with easy packaging and transportation,to ensure a full low-energy-consumption product’s life cycle.
The project focuses on the unit for rainwater harvesting(to be placed in the agricultural areas):it opens-up reacting to the rain;the 100% eco-friendly model use a rain-activated mechanism (variable weight system)to start the engine, collect water and the counterweight pulls the structure back. The unit is then integrated with an irrigation system to feed the plants in the dry season.
Aquapuncture aim to identify a sustainable design model that embeds some of the principles of contemporary design which is affordable and clear yet inventive and specific.
